The Octagon Club is a service club sponsored by the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club.  Members are students (grades 9-12) who are interested in helping kids and their community.

Criteria for Membership

  • Any Butler High School student may be a member of Octagon Club
  • Any student will be considered a member in good standing by attending a minimum of 10 meetings during the school year
  • Members must participate in at least 2 club activities or fundraisers each year
  • Students will earn points for active participation in Octagon Club

Members must complete a simple membership form and also pay a one-time $10 membership fee (per year).

Past activities have included:

  • BHS Teacher Appreciation Event
  • Assist with Vandalia Freedom Bike Tour
  • Candle sale
  • Assist with Butler Township Pumpkin Day
  • Help raise dollars for “Volley for the Cure”
  • Collect items for the Ronald McDonald House

Why Should I Join Octagon Club?

  • Participate in fun activities to help kids and the community
  • Gain experiences and leadership skills for the future
  • Meet and network with adult leaders in the community while working with the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club
  • Earn points to quality for future scholarships and also for the National Honor Society

The V-B Optimist Club will award a scholarship to one senior student who is a member in good standing of the BHS Octagon Club.  More information will follow concerning the award and the application process.
